Samford Road and Glen Holm Street intersection upgrade, Mitchelton
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will conduct road widening and resurfacing works at the intersection of Samford Road and Glen Holm Street in Mitchelton from early January 2025.
These works will include installing an outbound right turn pocket into Glen Holm Street to help reduce congestion along Samford Road.
Works will also include constructing wider shared pathways along the southern nature strip next to Fenwick Park and tree and vegetation planting in Fenwick Park.
Enabling works to widen the road corridor and relocate electrical utilities were completed throughout 2024.
Work activities
- Road widening and resurfacing
- Installation of road lighting
- Creation of an outbound right turn pocket from Samford Road into Glen Holm Street
- Construction of wider shared pathways along the southern nature strip
- Tree and vegetation planting in Fenwick Park
Timing
- Works will commence early January 2025 and be completed late April 2025, construction and weather conditions permitting.
- Typical construction hours will be from 7pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday. Night works are required for road user safety, and to avoid what would otherwise be extensive traffic queuing and disruption to the road network.
- Occasional day works may also be required between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Expected impacts
Motorists
- Traffic changes will be in effect, including road shoulder closures, temporary lane closures with traffic control, changes to traffic flow, temporary speed reductions and short-term traffic disruptions.
- Please allow extra time when planning your travel and follow the directions of roadside signage and traffic controllers.
Residents and businesses
- Nearby residents and businesses can expect to experience short-term impacts including increased noise, dust and odour during the works.
- Access to private properties will be maintained during the works. If temporary access changes are required, property owners will be contacted directly. Reversing beepers and flashing lights are a safety requirement and will be always used during working hours.
Pedestrians and bike riders
- Temporary diversions to the pedestrian footpath will be in place during works. Please follow traffic control signage.
Environment
- The project will include significant landscaping and revegetation in Fenwick Park, including 14 new trees and 44 new ground covering plants.
- Landscaping includes five new semi-mature fig trees standing between four and six meters tall planted along Samford Road for amenity and shade. These will be planted a safe distance from the roadway.
Every effort will be made to minimise impacts on the local community and surrounds.
