Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct is opening next week

Precinct information

  • William Street, through the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct is reopening from 10am, Thursday 29 August.
  • William Street, between Elizabeth and Margaret Streets will reopen as a two-way single lane each way street.
  • Traffic and road users will be able to transverse the precinct to access Alice Street Riverside Expressway on-ramps and Elizabeth Street into the city.
  • William Street through the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct will be a key access road into The Star Brisbane carpark and taxi/ride share drop-off and pickup areas, and The Star Grand Porte Cochere.
  • As well as William Street reopening, an additional lane from the southbound Margaret Street off-ramp has been created to allow traffic from the north to enter directly into the carpark adjacent Margaret Street, on the corner of William Street.
  • Since 2017 William Street, between Elizabeth and Margaret Streets has been closed to facilitate the construction of the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct including The Star Brisbane.
  • William Street has been transformed with trees and greenery, pedestrian rest areas, new lighting and security and new drop-off areas for taxis and share ride in place.
  • William Street has been rebuilt to a high standard and allows access at various points into the new precinct’s carpark and Porte Cochere for The Star Grand.
  • Road users are asked to observe speed limits and new conditions in the area including pedestrian crossings and changed footpaths and loading areas.
  • Queen’s Wharf Brisbane is reshaping Brisbane’s CBD from George Street to the Brisbane River, from Queen Street to Alice Street as well as the Brisbane River’s edge down to Goodwill Bridge.
  • The development also helps better connect Brisbane with the Neville Bonner Bridge enabling pedestrian access to South Bank.
  • Destination Brisbane Consortium is working with government and road and transport operators to communicate the changes to traffic conditions and safely minimise any impacts.

– Will the speed limit on William St at Queens Wharf be 40km/h?

  • Correct 40km/h

– Are car parks A, C and E connected? Likewise, are car parks B and D connected?

  • It is one car park with three entrances (A- William street Entry, B – Queens Wharf Entry, C – Margaret Street Entry).
  • E is the taxi pick up and drop off area which is not connected to the car park – the entry to E is approximately 40m east of the entry to A.
  • D is the Star Grand Porte Cochere which is not connected to the car park.

– Are car parks A and E exits at the same location as the entry and left turn only towards Margaret St or Alice St? Likewise, is car park D exiting left only towards Elizabeth St?

  • Exit from A is at the same location as entry. Exit at A can turn left into William St towards Margaret St and right into William Street towards Elizabeth St.
  • Exit from B is at the same location as entry.
  • There is no exit from the car park at C. Car park exits at A and B only.
  • D is only the Star Grand Porte Cochere which is not connected to the car park. The exit from D can only turn left into William St towards Elizabth St.
  • There are two areas to E:
    • A drop-off / pick up and go area and a taxi area. There are two exits from E.
    • One exit from the drop-off is through the exit from A (can turn left into William St towards Margaret St and turn right into William Street towards Elizabeth St.).  
    • The other exit from E for the taxi area is the same location as the entry. This exit at E can only turn left into William St towards Margaret St.
    • The taxi exit at E could turn through the drop-off area and exit at A.

– Where do car parks B and C exit towards?

  • Exit from B is at the same location as entry, left onto Margaret St.
  • There is no exit from the car park at C. Car park exits at A and B only.

– Is this location formally recognised as Queens Wharf or The Star Brisbane?

  • The greater precinct is called “Queens Wharf Brisbane”,  the Integrated Resort Development is called “The Star Brisbane”.
