Intersection Upgrade – Kelvin Grove Road and Lower Clifton Terrace, Red Hill

Kelvin Grove Road and Lower Clifton Terrace intersection upgrade – Red Hill

Project update

Works to upgrade the Kelvin Grove Road and Lower Clifton Terrace intersection are progressing with the relocation of underground electrical and gas services within the project area now complete.

We will now begin works to change the unsignalised access point at Lower Clifton Terrace and Kelvin Grove Road to left out only and remove the signalised left turn from Lower Clifton Terrace into Kelvin Grove Road. These works are expected to be complete in early to mid-2025.

As the Project has progressed, we have identified additional opportunities to enhance safety at the intersection of Kelvin Grove Road and Musk Avenue, in Kelvin Grove Road. These safety improvements will be undertaken as part of the Kelvin Grove Road and Lower Clifton Terrace intersection upgrade.

Once completed, the project will improve the overall operation of the intersection, reduce congestion and enhance safety for people walking and riding through the area.

When will this work take place?

Start

The Kelvin Grove Road and Lower Clifton Terrace intersection upgrade is currently in construction, with works to upgrade the Kelvin Grove Road and Musk Avenue intersection expected to commence in late January 2025.

Finish

Early to mid-2025, weather and site conditions permitting.

Time and day

7pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday.

To reduce traffic impacts and ensure the safety of residents, motorists and workers, works will be carried out at night when traffic volumes on Kelvin Grove Road are lower.

What does this mean for me?

If you live in or are travelling through the area, you may experience:

  • increased noise, truck movements, vibration, dust and light from mobile light towers
  • temporary traffic changes, including lane closures, minor traffic delays and reduced speed limits.

A site compound has already been established on Lower Clifton Terrace and will continue to be used for these works.

What does this work include?

Works on the Kelvin Grove Road and Musk Avenue intersection involve:

  • constructing a 6-metre-wide raised pedestrian crossing
  • upgrading the existing traffic island
  • installing new kerb and footpath on the eastern corner of Musk Avenue, including installing new weldmesh fencing
  • constructing a new bike ramp and bike path
