Road Closure – North Quay, Brisbane City
North Quay road closure – November 2024 to January 2025
Brisbane City Council is delivering the turn-up-and-go Brisbane Metro.
From 7pm Friday 29 November 2024 until 5am Monday 13 January 2025, Brisbane Move will undertake works on North Quay and Adelaide Street to construct the new Adelaide Street tunnel entrance.
Service installation, demolition of existing structures, concreting, asphalting and pavement works will also be undertaken on Adelaide Street and North Quay during this time.
In the event of wet weather or unforeseen site conditions, these works, and the associated temporary road closures and bus changes will continue until 5am Monday 20 January 2025.
Temporary road closures on North Quay and Adelaide Street
During these works, the following temporary traffic changes will be in place:
- The left turning lane from North Quay on to Adelaide Street will be closed, with motorists detoured back along North Quay via a temporary cul-de-sac and onto the Riverside Expressway (southbound).
- Local precinct access only to the Brisbane Quarter for vehicles travelling on North Quay from Ann Street onwards.
- The northbound traffic lane on North Quay and Adelaide Street, between Victoria Bridge and George Street will be closed.
- Buses that usually travel on the closed sections of North Quay and Adelaide Street will be detoured.
- Buses and general traffic will travel on Adelaide Street (southbound) as per the final alignment.
Traffic management will be in place to assist motorists and bus services.
Translink service impacts
Temporary Translink bus stop changes and route detours will be in place during these works – signage will be installed at impacted bus stops to assist customers.
During this time for information about bus service changes, download the Translink app, visit translink.com.au or call 13 12 30.
Work will involve
- Construction activities: the use of road saws, hammering equipment, excavation equipment, trucks, compaction equipment including vibrating rollers, concrete agitators, concrete pumps, cranes, asphalting equipment, hand tools and line marking equipment as well as lighting towers and other construction machinery.
- Noise, dust, vibration and light from construction machinery, equipment, activities and increased truck movements.
What to expect
- Work hours: construction activities will be undertaken continuously (24 hours a day), and reduced tunnel operations will continue throughout this period.
- Higher impact activities: the use of road saws and excavators with hammer attachments will be undertaken between 6.30am and 11pm.
- Public holidays: no works are scheduled to be undertaken from Tuesday 24 December to Thursday 26 December 2024.
To minimise the impact to residents, Brisbane Move is conducting these works over the holiday period as it is a quieter time on the inner-city road and public transport network.
Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of these works on nearby residents and businesses.
