Venner Road – Watermain works (Ipswich Road to Somervell Street)

What works are coming up?

Essential works to lower the watermain along Venner Road (between Ipswich Road and Somervell Street) will start from 24 March 2025, weather and site conditions permitting.

To ensure the safety of road workers and motorists and to minimise traffic disruptions, these works will be completed at night, when traffic volumes are lowest.

When will this work take place?

Start: From 24 March 2025

Finish: Early June, weather and site conditions permitting

Time and day: Night works 7pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday

What does this work include?

As part of these works, Brisbane City Council will:

• excavate the road surface along Venner Road between Ipswich Road and Somervell Street
• relocate the watermain infrastructure under the road.
• reinstate the road in preparation for the road resurfacing works to start.

What does this mean for me?

If you live in or are travelling through the area, you may experience:

• noise, dust and vibration from construction machinery operating through the night. Reversing beepers cannot be switched off
• increased street lighting and equipment on site.
• temporary water outages to test and connect the watermain. If your property is affected, you will be notified by Urban Utilities at least 48 hours prior to any interruption taking place

Changed traffic conditions:

While the works are underway, the following changed traffic conditions will be in place on Venner Road, between Ipswich Road and Somerville Street:

• reduced speed limits
• lane closure with access through this section via stop/go traffic control.
• no on-street parking during work hours. Please utilise side street parking.
• at times, restricted access to properties within the work zone. Please follow directions from the Traffic control.
• at times, access to Somerville Street and Roy Street via Venner Road will be closed. A detour will be in place with access maintained via Tamworth Street and Vallely Street.

Please follow the direction of traffic control who will manage access into and out of the work area and impacted properties.

Next steps

Once the watermain works are complete, road resurfacing works will start along Venner Road (between Ipswich Road and Fairfield Road). We will provide more information about timeframes and impacts ahead of the road resurfacing works starting.
